Winter Solstice Wax Carving Pendant Workshop

Winter Solstice Wax Carving Pendant Workshop
Learn how to make your own completely unique silver pendant inspired by the magic and symbolism of the winter solstice, using the ancient art of wax carving and lost wax casting in this fun, creative & relaxed jewellery making workshop.
The experience
In the Celtic seasonal calendar, the winter solstice marks the longest night and the turning point of the year, when the sun begins its gradual return and the days slowly grow lighter. It represents rebirth, renewal and the promise of new beginnings, a time to honour the darkness, reflect on the year gone by and welcome the returning light.
This wax carving pendant workshop was designed to celebrate and honour this moment in the calendar, and to mark it by making a simple pendant inspired by its symbolism. Think guiding stars, the rising sun, spirals representing the idea of re-emerging from the darkness, you'll be guided through the various tools and techniques to carve your chosen design for a pendant, which can then be cast and finished in sterling silver (extra fee applies, see below).
What you'll learn:
A little bit about the fascinating process of lost wax casting and how your wax creation is transformed into a beautiful silver pendant
The basic skills involved in wax carving, from using different tools to shaping, texturing, refining and finishing your design
What's included:
All materials and tools needed for the workshop
Guidance and advice on how to carve your chosen pendant design
A winter themed herbal tea & nibbles
If you love your creation and wish to have it cast in sterling silver (and possibly gold plated), this is charged as an extra fee based on the weight of your finished piece and the metal prices at the time of casting. A quote/guidance can be provided on the day.
This is due to the current cost and volatility of metal prices and to allow more creative freedom as part of the learning process.
