Handmade silver rings made at my wax carving workshops
When I look back at all of the wax carving jewellery workshops so far, I feel incredibly proud of what my students have achieved. Each workshop begins with a simple block of wax, and over the course of the class, students slowly shape that wax into a ring that reflects their ideas, instincts, and growing confidence at the bench.
In these ring making workshops, students focus entirely on the wax carving process. They learn the foundations of wax carving for rings, how to design for wear, carve with intention, and refine details by hand. Once the wax rings are complete, I take care of the lost wax casting, transforming their carved designs into solid silver rings. This allows students to concentrate on creativity and learning the core technique, while still experiencing the excitement of seeing their work realised in metal.
What always amazes me is how much variety comes out of each jewellery making class. From organic, sculptural forms to bold textures and clean, minimal designs, every wax ring is different. Even though students start with the same materials, the finished handmade silver rings are unmistakably personal.
These jewellery workshops are designed to be welcoming and accessible, whether someone is completely new to jewellery making or curious about silversmithing and jewellery design. My favourite part is watching students trust the process, push past hesitation, and realise what they’re capable of creating with their own hands.
Every silver ring that comes back from casting represents a moment of learning and accomplishment. I’m truly proud of my students and the work they’ve created through these wax carving classes, and I’m excited to continue building this community of makers.
